Training can do a lot of things.  It can convey cultural messaging and expectations.  It can illustrate concepts, outline principles.  Provide information.  Reinforce standards.

But it’s not great at moving the needle on sustained performance improvement.

If you want better team cohesion and trust, for example, that won’t come from a seminar.   If you’re preparing for a promotion , a half day training session likely won’t get you there.

Marked, lasting improvement comes from the combination of sustained execution and experimentation pointed in the right direction.  For that we need a guide, someone with insight, someone whom we trust and who knows the nuances of our situation.  We also need someone who knows the path and its terrain and can provide recommendations on which steps along the path are right for us, in particular.
